Room decor is a bit fussy
The Hotel Nordik is a mid-range, 30-room property that has been run by the same family for four generations, which shows in both the interiors and the affable atmosphere. Kids are well looked after in the kids' club, leaving parents to enjoy the impressive, though fairly small, spa. Rooms are cozy though not particularly remarkable -- some have great views. Free bikes, breakfast, and parking keep rates low. The best endorsement for this hotel, however, is the high rate of return guests, meaning the property is certainly doing something right.
Family-run and family-focused hotel with Alpine ambience
Many elements of a traditional Alpine chalet can be found inside and out at Hotel Nordik, from wooden balconies and gently sloping roofs, to log fires and carved wooden coving. The hotel has been run by the Osti family since 1968, evident throughout the property in the form of a mix of quirky and homey furnishings. The overall look and style is unpretentious, slightly mismatched, and generally inviting with a personable ambience. In fact, fourth generation Osti Gianluca is not only the owner, but also the chef in the restaurant, so he's particularly keen to engage guests and make them feel welcome. Families are catered to, and the familiar and hospitable atmosphere ensures many repeat visitors.
Set in the center of Andalo village, minutes from Paganella ski lift
The Hotel Nordik is located a couple minutes from the center of Andalo village, set in the heart of the Brenta Dolomites in north Italy. The nearest train station is about 40 minutes' drive away in Trento -- shuttle buses bring guests directly to the hotel -- while Dolomiti Airport is an hour away by car. The hotel is also just two minutes' walk from ski lifts to Paganella resort, with over 30 miles of ski runs. Parking on-site is free.
Traditionally styled rooms in Alpine wood, some with balconies
The Hotel Nordik has 30 rooms, all of which are decorated in a traditional style with somewhat dated patterned fabrics and Alpine wood furnishings. Thick blue carpet and tasseled curtains look fussy compared to stark knotted wood walls and ceilings. Standard amenities include Wi-Fi (charged) and flat-screen TVs with Sky channels, while bathrooms provide hairdryers, toiletries, and bathrobes. Some rooms open onto balconies with mountain views.
A real highlight is the hotel's sleek, contemporary Acqua di Rosa spa. It's on the small side but packs in loads of luxe facilities like a modern indoor pool, Finnish sauna (with mountain views), Turkish bath, and a range of treatments. Kids are well catered to, with a games and drawing room and mini-club activities. The hotel takes particular pride in its restaurant (the head chef also being the owner) and serves up a menu of typical regional specialties. Breakfast is included in the price of a room and half-board packages are available. Free bike loans are another fun perk.
