Most Romantic Hotels in Phuket

Stunning sunsets, top-notch guest rooms, and elegant Thai style make Phuket a romantic locale for honeymooners or vacationing couples. If you're looking to take an amorous vacation with your significant other to Phuket, there are several properties geared toward the traveling couple. We visited the popular island to check out the hotels and see which had features geared toward couples -- comfy beds, upscale spas, and few kids splashing in the pools. Check out the most romantic hotels in Phuket and start planning your getaway!

  1. Andara Resort and Villas is one of the most expensive five-pearl options in Phuket, but with the high price tag comes over-the-top extras like private chefs and access to a customized yacht. Well-heeled guests choose from luxury villas or suites; most of them have gorgeous private pools and sweeping views of the Andaman Sea. It would be easy to spend an entire vacation holed up in the villas, which get stocked with guests' favorite foods, and a private chef comes to prepare customized meals. Other great features are the relaxing spa, infinity-edge swimming pool, and Silk restaurant found in the common areas. One caveat: the beach is about a 10-minute walk (or quick buggy ride) from the hotel.

  2. The 48-room luxury Ayara Hilltops Resort and Spa is an adult-only resort built on the steep slope of Surin Hill, in northwest Phuket. Thanks to its hillside location and lush, jungle-like landscaping, there are unobstructed and spectacular views throughout -- especially the sunsets over the Andaman Sea on the horizon. Each room is a spacious, private villa with luxe features including outdoor showers and deep soaking tubs. However, rooms lack Wi-Fi (though they do have wired Internet) and the resort's removed location away from the action in Phuket may deter some from staying here.

  3. Trisara Phuket is one of the most luxurious and private five-pearl properties in Phuket. Guests are met at the airport by an SUV and shuttled to the stylish resort, complete with a private sandy beach, infinity-edge swimming pool, three restaurants, and gorgeous accommodations with private pools and views of the Andaman Sea. There's a private boathouse and a popular Jazz Brunch on Sundays. Prices are high, but freebies include airport transportation, a breakfast buffet, chocolates, and Wi-Fi. For honeymooners and families who can afford it, Trisara is hard to beat.

  4. Paresa means "heaven" in Thai, and with a staff that refers to themselves as angels, panoramic views of the Andaman Sea over Millionaires Mile, and private luxury villas -- to some guests, Paresa is truly a five-pearl piece of (expensive) heaven on earth. At night, the infinity-edge pool is lit up with hundreds of twinkling LED lights. Two on-site restaurants and a cooking school offer gourmet fare. The location on a cliff means privacy (and those uninterrupted views), but the tradeoff is a remote neighborhood and no direct beach access; the resort works around that problem with a free hourly shuttle to town and Kamala Beach.

  5. It's pretty difficult to beat the wow factor found at The Naka Island, A Luxury Collection Resort & Spa Phuket. Guests arrive at the small, tropical island via a five-minute speedboat ride from Phuket. The five-pearl property consists of 67 private villas with private courtyards that boast plunge pools and giant outdoor soaking tubs. Naka Spa is one of the best in Thailand; it includes an ice room and warm Watsu pool. A private sand beach, a gorgeous two-tiered swimming pool, and three on-site restaurantsare convenient and necessary features, as there isn't much else on the island besides natural jungles and a small Muslim fishing village. One oddity is that the grounds aren't very well maintained and look patchy in many areas. Overall, this is an excellent choice for those who want a quiet tropical beach vacation with all the trimmings and no crowds -- but expect to pay high prices (by Thailand standards).

  6. Regent Phuket Cape Panwa is a five-pearl property overlooking the Panwa Cape on Phuket's quiet southern end. With a breathtaking infinity-edge pool overlooking the Andaman Sea, a private sandy beach, and tricked-out villas and rooms, the Regent Phuket is an ideal spot for couples and families seeking a luxurious tropical vacation with all the trimmings. Fun extras include iPad tablets in the rooms, a full spa and salon, and a free breakfast buffet. Those who would prefer to explore Thailand may not appreciate the semi-isolated location; expect a 20-minute drive to Phuket Town and 45 minutes to the airport.

  7. Anantara Phuket Villas is a five-pearl property with gorgeous villas; all come with lovely private pools. It was designed by renowned architect Bill Bensley, and his high attention to stylish detail shows throughout the Sino Portuguese property: intricately carved wood, open-air buildings, reflection pools, and pagoda-style structures can be found here. Though Anantara has everything its competitors have -- a luxe spa, free breakfast buffet, cooking school, and free bikes -- the one major flaw here is the tiny, red flag beach. For those who care more about swimming pools than sand, the Anantara is a great choice; it has one of the most spectacular pools in Phuket.

  8. With its authentic Thai decor, open-air bar and restaurant, and two beautiful pools, the upscale Burasari Resort provides an idyllic respite from the hectic pace of Patong. This 186-room property is right across from the beach and a short walk from the heart of the city, yet feels cozy and secluded thanks to its leafy, tropical grounds. A variety of room types are available, and all come with free minibars. The property's spa offers a host of pricey treatments, but the Thai and continental buffet breakfast is free. This is a good choice for couples seeking a relatively quiet, romantic stay within close proximity of livelier environs in Patong.

  9. The Vijitt Resort Phuket was built over 60 years on a small strip of Friendship Beach in Rawai. It's an excellent luxury option with standalone private villas and pools strategically placed on gentle slopes. An infinity-edgepool and V Spa add splashes of glamour, but the overall vibe is laid-back and casual with mostly international couples -- though locals are a large part of the crowd at Sunday brunch in the open-air restaurant. The location is a bit far from the airport and Patong Beach, so a car or free shuttle ride are required for getting around. For those that want to hole up in a luxe villa and order room service, the Vijitt Resort is hard to beat.

  10. SALA Phuket Resort is a romantic option in a series of upscale-to-luxurious resorts on Mai Khao Beach near the Phuket International Airport. What differentiates this property from its many competitors is its intimate size, rooms with gorgeous outdoor bathrooms and soaking tubs, and swimmable stretch of beach. Two infinity-edge pools face the ocean and there isn't much to do on-site besides borrowing one of the two kayaks, riding bike, visiting the spa, or eating at the gourmet restaurant.

  11. Villa Zolitude Resort and Spa is a four-and-a-half pearl, all-villa property with one major difference from most of its luxury competitors: it's set in the rain forest of Phuket and not on the beach. For those who are more interested in visiting Wat Chalong Temple or Phukana Golf Course, the location is convenient. Each of the 45 stylish villas has an individual pool and outdoor living room space. The largest villas have four bedrooms. Free minibar snacks and Wi-Fi are nice touches. Though kids are welcome here, Zense Spa, Thai cooking classes, and a small infinity-edge pool with fiber optic lights for swimming at night are more appealing to couples than families. Prices are on the high side for Phuket, though a breakfast buffet and shuttle to Nai Harn Beach (a 30-minute ride) are nice freebies.

  12. Opened in 2013, Mandarava Resort and Spa is one of the area's more recent arrivalsand it shows in its chic, contemporary styling. This luxury property is set on a hillside, which means captivating panoramas though it also means a 10-minute walk to Karon's beachfront and a steep climb back up. Rooms are elegant with furnished balconies and superb views. Three infinity pools are impressive and the hilltop spa is a relaxing spot for a massage. Although it's one of the pricier options around, the Mandarava is also undoubtedly one of the best (though maybe not for the little ones).

  13. Mom Tri's Villa Royale is an upscale boutique hotel and spa set on a headland overlooking Kata Noi beach on the southwestern side of Phuket. The hotel's 35 rooms are housed in Thai-style buildings, including the former home of Thai artist and architect Mom Tri. Rooms are decorated with Thai antiques and have private balconies with sea views; some have direct shoreline access, or access to a private pool. There is a main pool overlooking the sea, saltwater pool tucked into the hillside, and separate pool for Kata Suites. The spa offers an outdoor steam bath and full range of treatments. Mom Tri's Kitchen serves excellent Thai cuisine, the wine cellar is consistently awarded for excellence, and there are a cozy piano bar and lounge.

  14. Beyond Resort Karon is an upscale, adult-only hotel claiming the distinction of being the only resort set right on Karon's beach. The location makes for some wonderful ocean views -- from the rooms, both pools, and its restaurant -- as well a relatively peaceful atmosphere. Guest units are spacious with furnished balconies, though there have been reports of issues with mosquitoes. Rates are certainly on the expensive end of the scale for this caliber of hotel, but you're paying for its unique setting and superb sea vistas.
