Bottom Line

A bit removed from tourist attractions, the 133-room Innside Premium Hotels Berlin is an upper-mid-range hotel in East Berlin with a bar and restaurant on-site as well as a small fitness center and spa. Rooms are clean and spacious, but have odd, open bathroom concepts with tubular showers in the middle of the rooms -- perfect for exhibitionists, but perhaps uncomfortable for shyer bathers. Guests give the breakfast, which can be included in some room rates, a good review, but complain about the spotty Wi-Fi. Visitors interested in Berlin's dining and shopping scene should check out Sir F.K. Savigny Hotel Berlin, a sleek boutique in Charlottenburg, an affluent neighborhood with plenty of high-end shops.

Oyster Hotel Review

Scene

Big, upper-mid-range hotel with both leisure and business guests

It’s not hard to imagine the Innside Premium Hotels Berlin in its previous incarnation as a school over 100 years ago. The red brick wings of the old building form a courtyard with a grassy lawn and a small garden. There’s a mix of business travelers, families, and couples who stay at the hotel, and while there’s no longer a principal’s office, there is a modern lobby with red leather couches and a large black-and-white mural behind the front desk. The restaurant where guests can enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner has a bright solarium, and in warmer months, guests can have breakfast outside on the terrace. There’s also a round, retro bar with red leather bar stools and purple walls. The atmosphere is relaxed, though decor isn't particularly polished.

Location

Quiet, residential area in East Berlin

This hotel is in a residential neighborhood a bit far from most tourist destinations. It’s a short walk to the river, and there's a shopping center nearby with several casual dining options including Dunkin’ Donuts and McDonald’s. The S-Bahn is less than a five-minute walk, and the Berlin Wall Memorial can be reached in less than a 20-minute ride on public transportation. Alexanderplatz, a public square rich in history with upscale shopping and a transportation hub, can be reached in around a 25-minute walk. Berlin Tegel Airport is around a 25-minute drive, and the hotel arranges airport transfers for a fee.

Rooms

Clean, spacious rooms with unique, open bathrooms

Rooms are clean and spacious, but the furnishings -- large light wooden closets and desks -- are a bit bland and dated. Rooms have white walls, blue carpeting, and colorful paintings behind the beds. The open-concept bathrooms in some of the rooms are odd with tubular showers in the middle of the rooms that offer little privacy. Makeup mirrors and amenity kits with nail files are thoughtful touches. All rooms have minibars and small flat-screen TVs. Wi-Fi is available for a fee, though some guests report it’s spotty or nonexistent. Rooms with balconies and kitchenettes are offered, and coffee/tea facilities are available in Premium Rooms.

Features

Restaurant and bar on-site, breakfast for a fee, and small fitness center and sauna

A well-reviewed breakfast buffet is available for a fee with terrace dining in the summer. The hotel has a restaurant serving seasonal cuisine and a bar serving snacks and drinks. There is a small fitness center with stair stepping machines, a stationary bicycle, and hand weights. There is also a sauna, and a tanning bed is available for a fee. Parking and pets can also be accommodated for a fee. There is a small business center with newspapers and one computer, and three meeting rooms are available for private events. Wi-Fi is only available with a fee, and some guests report spotty service.
