Bottom Line

With a hillside location outside the noisy town center, the mid-range Palm Beach Hotel has the benefit of being in a quiet neighborhood. Its 299 rooms are quite dated, but higher floors have nice views toward the Mediterranean from their private balconies. The property also shares services and amenities with the Don Jorge Apartamentos next door. Common areas are generally large enough to accommodate everyone, and there's plenty of lounge space around the outdoor pool and garden. Features include a buffet restaurant and a bar with a Hawaiian theme, along with kid-friendly facilities like a game room and sports field. Since Don Jorge guests get all the same amenities, it's worth comparing rates for the larger rooms with kitchens there.

Oyster Hotel Review

Scene

Dated kid-friendly hotel that shares amenities with neighboring apartments

Popular with Spanish and British families, the Palm Beach Hotel caters to kids as much as adults, with game rooms and outdoor recreational pursuits. Since it's on a hill, walking back from the beach or restaurants can be a chore, and obvious effort has been made to make the property self-contained. Multiple bars and a resort-style pool surrounded by gardens are far more alluring compared to the more common concrete sundecks found in the area. Fountains with leaping dolphin sculptures line the outer entrance. Fans of Roman fantasy decor will enjoy the lobby, where wispy clouds are painted into a shallow ceiling dome. However, the faux columns, mixed marble floors, and gold accents, are more gaudy than timeless.

Location

In a quiet neighborhood near the beach and some attractions

The hotel's neighborhood is one of the quieter sections of Benidorm with few, if any bars, shopping centers, or restaurants in the immediate vicinity. Levante Beach is about a 15-minute walk from the property (uphill on the way back), or it can be accessed by the hotel’s free shuttle that runs for most of the day on a timely schedule. Restaurants, bars, and shopping can be found in the central part of the city, which is a 20-minute walk away, though there are a few bars and dining options within a 10-minute walk. Aqualandia, a water park, and its family-friendly neighbor, Mundomar, take about 20 minutes to reach on foot, or they're a five-minute drive. It’s a 45-minute drive to Alicante Airport, or an hour-and-a-half to Valencia Airport. Parking at the hotel is free.

Rooms

Dated rooms with balconies and mini-fridges

The 299 rooms here have a surprisingly dated decor with old tile floors and yellow- and cream-colored plaster walls. Their wood furnishings are cheap and in some places, badly worn. The rooms do have mini-fridges and small-flat-screen TVs, along with free Wi-Fi (but no coffeemakers). All have small furnished balconies. Some rooms on higher floors have appealing views of the city toward the sea. Basic desks and chairs come standard, and some rooms have sitting areas with couches. The bathrooms feature bidets and average shower/tub combos. There's also a large Imperial Suite, heavy on the Roman-themed decor, with frescos on the bathroom walls and a whirlpool tub.

Features

Indoor and outdoor pools, buffet restaurant, and multiple bars

There are two pools here: the heated indoor lap pool and an outdoor pool that has a large deck and poolside bar, surrounded by gardens. There's a fitness room and a sauna, but no spa. Kid-friendly amenities include a game room with a pool table and an outdoor playground for young children. There's also an outdoor soccer field (with a hard field). The COCO kids' club is open in the summer and provides arts and crafts for kids.

Dining options at Palm Beach Hotel are decent. The buffet restaurant, El Patio, serves Mediterranean dishes. Salon Hawaii has a low-key aloha vibe with light meals and drinks. Breakfast is included with standard rates, and more comprehensive all-inclusive rates are available. There’s also a late-night club with a dance floor.
