Bottom Line

The Westin Austin Downtown is a four-pearl property that’s a prime example of the Westin chain brand. It’s located in downtown Austin, near 6th Street and the Austin Convention Center. The hotel offers a great rooftop pool and bar, Southern cuisine restaurant with occasional live music, modern gym, and large meeting rooms. The chain's helpful New Balance fitness gear lending program is also on offer. The 366 guest rooms are contemporary and come with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers. With a location one block from 6th Street, guests note bothersome noise into the early morning hours, especially on the weekends. Another drawback is a pricey charge for valet parking. The nearby Hyatt Regency Austin is a good alternative that has a quieter environment and three restaurants.

Oyster Hotel Review

Stylish chain hotel with a great rooftop terrace that draws young visitors and business travelers

The Westin Austin Downtown is a classy and contemporary hotel located in the hustle and bustle of downtown Austin, just a block from 6th Street. Decor in the lobby features a mix of wood, carpet, and tiled floors, ceilings with floral cutouts, a sitting area with contemporary couches, and a vertical garden wall. There’s a similarly stylish design to the restaurant with its wooden floors, off-green chairs, and iron bar accented ceilings with hanging lamps. The rooftop terrace draws not only young travelers and groups of friends, but also locals. Due to the location and the chic aspects of the public spaces, the hotel is popular with business travelers, friends, and couples who don’t mind a busy hotel that’s subject to some bothersome noise from the nearby entertainment street of 6th Street.

One block from 6th Street, surrounded by restaurants, and a seven-minute walk to the Austin Convention Center

The Westin Austin has one of the most sought after locations in Austin for different types of travelers. It’s one block from 6th Street, a popular street filled with clubs, bars, and restaurants. On the other end of the spectrum, the property is just a seven-minute walk to the Austin Convention Center, making it convenient for business travelers. The Texas Capitol is a 13-minute walk away. Zilker Park takes 11 minutes to reach by car, as does the trendy South Congress neighborhood. It’s a 22-minute drive to the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

Contemporary rooms with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers

Rooms at The Westin Austin Downtown have a contemporary decor with a gray color palette, abstract art pieces above the beds, light pink armchairs with faux tire treads, and trendy furniture. All of the spacious rooms include flat-screen TVs with CHIVE TV, air-conditioning, mini-fridges, iHome docking stations, and coffeemakers with Starbucks coffee and Tazo Tea. Rooms have Wi-Fi, though it’s only free for SPG members (free to join the program). Bathrooms are separated from rooms via a sliding door and have a neutral color palette, glass showers, toiletries, and hairdryers. Rooms on upper-floors have lovely downtown Austin views.

Take note that the hotel is a block from 6th Street, Austin's main party avenue, so guests will more than likely be able to hear music into the early hours.

Heated rooftop pool, pool bar, fitness center, restaurant, and pricy valet parking

The hotel’s most popular feature is its rooftop heated pool. Guests can take advantage of downtown views, sun loungers, and a chic pool bar that serves a variety of drinks and snacks; it’s often pretty crowded here. There’s no spa, but there is a 24/7 gym with cardio and weight equipment, free weights, spin classes, and a New Balance fitness gear lending program that allows guests to borrow clean shoes. Stella San Jac is the hotel’s Southern restaurant. It has an open kitchen, indoor and outdoor dining, and often hosts local musicians. Breakfast has cold and hot options, and generally costs a fee. Room service is available. The hotel has quite a few business-friendly amenities like 16 fully-equipped meeting rooms and a business center. Wi-Fi is free for SPG members, but the program is free to sign up for. Some pets are welcome for a fee. Valet parking incurs a pricey charge.
